I’m still working on spiffing up the blog system: archives, permalinks, etc. Today (completely without planning to do so) I added comments using foreword.com’s dotcomments system. It uses PHP and is INCREDIBLY easy to install on a Blogger-based system like mine.
I’ve been so freakin’ busy at work that I haven’t really had time to post anything here. I’m working all day long every day on this new site. I’m evolving from a very tables-intensive design style to a CSS-based design style, so I’m having to learn a lot of new (to me, anyway) CSS tricks. Of course, the myth of standards compliant browsers means that there are still tricks to be performed. In fact, I spent over an hour today trying to figure out why a pile of correctly nested <div>s (I validated it) didn’t appear correctly MSIE5.0/Windows. Guess why? That browser doesn’t like nested <div>s, so I had to code one version for actually CSS-compliant browsers and another for allegedly CSS-compliant browsers. I did a browser-sniffing bit of WebDNA (I could do it faster than with JS) to swap out includes for the proper versions.
So, it’s stuff like that which has derailed me some lately. Nevertheless, I should have it done on time (August 1st), and then I can link it from here and from my design page. I think it’s pretty cool so far.
I’m slowly but surely adding sections back to this site. The Outside section is partially up, though it mainly consists of just my Flyfishing Journal at the moment. I fish more than the journal suggests, but I’ve not been very dedicated about entering all my trips. The Web Design section, which is mainly an ego-shrine to sites I’ve designed and then some links to sites and resources will likely go up next, then Music, then the House stuff.
Not much to see here yet. Eventually, maybe, there will be. Not yet, though.
