Blaaauuuughhhh!
See, I would really like to maintain a blog. I also would like for said blog to be pretty. I used to have a pretty blog, back when I used Movable Type. MT — for all of its many shortcomings — is dead easy to design around. WordPress, my current platform, is, um, NOT (not for me, anyway, which COULD just be a personal problem). I just can’t wrap my brain around how WP is put together. I just can’t. That embarrasses and frustrates me to no end. I just don’t grok the underlying concepts behind WP’s code. It seems bloated and inelegant, to say the least.
So, I’m going to bite the bullet and destroy two birds with one stone. I’m going to learn to use Django (a Python-powered web application framework) to build me a new blogging tool. I’ve been curious about Django for a while, and I’ve been learning Python (off and on for the last year, but more intensely in the last couple of months). I’m going to use Jeff’s primer, Django for Non-programmers to get started. I’m about equal parts designer and programmer, but I still want a friendly place to start.
Stay tuned for fun!
