You want me to what?

After being on the new job for just over three months, I got a huge promotion Tuesday. My boss is leaving to take a job in a different industry, and he recommended me to replace him, and the publisher did (I am qualified, after all). So, as of July 1st, I’ll be the Director of Internet Publishing for our region, in charge of the web publishing efforts for three daily newspapers, plus the ad sales, classified sales, and other functions that accompany that whole operation. I’ll have two employees, manage a budget, etc. It’s a bit scary, but also very exciting.

Home Improvement

Posted on 20 Jun 2002 · tagged · comments off

We’re embarking on some of the most involved home improvement we’ve attempted since moving into out house almost two years ago. We’re installing laminate wood flooring in our living room and dining room, which is almost 500 sq. ft. We got the stuff today, and it’s currently sitting in our living room “acclimating” to the temperature and humidity inside our house. We’re going to demolish the carpet Saturday morning, then start installing Saturday afternoon. Before and After pictures will follow. Wish me luck.

Live tunes

Thanks to a groovy app called Kung-Tunes that allows you to dynamically display what’s playing in your copy of iTunes. You can even customize the output with links, css, etc.

The Listening info to your far right now displays the currently-playing track on my iTunes, which is going most of the day and evening. The artist’s name is linked to a Google search for the artist, and the song title is linked to an AudioGalaxy search for that song. Cool, huh?

Assassinate your SPAM!

Ben Trott (he of Movable Type fame) has created step-by-step set of instructions for installing SpamAssassin under Mac OS X. Thanks, Ben!

UPDATE: you need the latest version of Apple’s Developer Tools (the April 2002 release), which are available from the ADC site.

UPDATE 2: SpamAssassin f’ing rocks! I followed Ben’s instructions EXACTLY on my home machine, and installation went smoothly. I’m assassinating spam as I type this. My usual flood of 15-50 spams per day is about to get dam(n|m)ed!

Only in the South

You can’t make this stuff up: a strange story of a radical field buttockectomy in Alabama. It’s the heat. And the humidity. And the culture of violence that pervades America, especially the South. I’m a Southerner, so I can make these accusations. [hat tip to Scooter, who doesn't have a link to link to]
