new freelance gig

Posted on 24 Apr 2002 · tagged · comments off

If final negotiations go well, I may have picked up a big new freelance gig. It’ll be a challenging and fun project that’s quite a bit different (though with enough similarities to still be in comfortable territory) than the stuff I do at work. I’m looking foward to getting plans finalized and getting started on it. I’ll have more details if things work out.

cool new browser Chimera

It’s still in the way-early release stage (I’ve managed to crash it three times in the last hour), and it still have a load of problems, but Chimera is a cool Gecko-powered Cocoa (native Mac OS X) app that uses Mac OS X’s awesome Quartz display engine, so it anti-aliases all the text on the page, which is nice if you like that. As soon as it gets usable for most everyday use, I’m switching over to it.

My favorite fiction writer, Rick Bass, has a new book, The Hermit’s Story, coming out this summer. I love his short fiction. His first two collections of stories (The Watch and In the Loyal Mountains) are two of my favorite books. Also, my favorite outdoor adventure/humor writer, Tim Cahill, has a new book coming out in October.

under the hood

I upgraded to Movable Type 2.0 today. It’s been out for almost a month, but with as little blogging as I do these days, I haven’t taken the time to do it. It was painless. Another tip of the hat to Mena and Ben for all their hard work.

feeling better

I’m feeling better. I’m not back to 100%, but I’m on the way. I should be able to resume exercising by the end of the week, I think. That’ll be nearly 3 weeks with next to no exercise. All the ground I gained in the previous six weeks will be all but lost, I fear. Oh, well. At least I want to get back to it. That’s something, right?
