I’m off to Las Vegas

Posted on 30 Sep 2001 · tagged · comments off

I’m off to Las Vegas tomorrow. I’m not real fired up about it, since there’s a lot riding on this trip as far as the future of my job goes. My job’s not riding on this trip, but what my job functions will be defined as in the future in all likelihood depends upon how this trip goes. Some decisions might be made (or will be revealed, if they’ve already been made) that will determine whether I want to stay in this job or start looking elsewhere. In either case, I’ll get to see somewhere I’ve never seen before, notch up another state on my list of States Visited (currently sitting at about seventeen or eighteen), and I have a chance at winning some money gambling. Not much of a chance, but some, right?

What you say?!

I stumbled across a link toAll Your Base again today. I know it’s been pounded into the ground by this point, but it still cracks me up every time. I even laugh at references to it. “Somebody set us up the bomb.” Hee.

ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI

What five words make up the best phrase you’ve ever heard? For me, it’s ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI. I did a little research on Vegas today, so I’ll be a little more prepared while I’m there next week. Apparently, they have not one, but at least THREE all you can eat sushi places. I’m not eating from now until Monday night!

To boldly go…

So, tonight was the premiere of Enterprise. I’ve been waiting rather impatiently for this to premiere. I’m a big geek, and I love Star Trek. Actually, I don’t care so much for the original series. It’s a little too campy and cheesy, but I like the other three, especially Deep Space Nine and Voyager. I like that DSN was so character-driven (even though the last season and a half was all about the war with the Dominion, and Voyager got that way eventually. Anyway, I’ve wander off-point. Enterprise was pretty good. Bakula was good, and the crew seems like they’ll develop stronger personalities as it goes on. The Vulcans seem a little too haughty and not “Vulcan” enough, but maybe it took them another hundred years or so to iron out that logic over emotion thing that we see in TOS. The new bad guys — the Suliban — don’t impress me so far. Anyway, I liked it enough to know that I’ll watch it. I’ll keep watching the occasional Voyager (it’s on every weeknight at 9pm) and DSN (twice a week, on the weekends), too. Geek on!

OS X and SourceForge

Mac OS X gets down on the (Compile) Farm. The good folks at SourceForge have added Apple G4 servers with Mac OS X running on them so that opensource developers can see how their stuff compiles and runs on OS X. Sweet.
